The Lima basin was at 51.9% of its volume on the last day of last month, while the Mondego basin was at 74.3%, compared with normal levels of 65.3% and 78.2%, respectively.
The Oeste basin had the highest water reserves, at 100%, followed by the Mira (94.3%) and Barlavento (86.7%) basins.
The SNIRH states that the basins with the least water were those of the Lima (51.9%), followed by the Ave (66%) and the Douro (71%).
Of the 60 monitored reservoirs, 21 have water availability greater than 80% of the total volume, and there were no reservoirs at the end of July with availability below 40% of the total volume.
Each river basin may correspond to more than one reservoir.
The climatological bulletin for June, prepared by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere, indicated that 61.1% of the territory presented mild drought and 2.7% moderate drought.
The index that measures the amount of water in the soil ranges from extreme rainfall to extreme drought.
Meteorological drought and hydrological drought are two different states of water shortage.
Meteorological drought comes first, with a lack of rain, while hydrological drought affects water levels in dams and rivers later.
