The milestone was recognised with the presentation of a commemorative certificate by APS – Administração dos Portos de Sines e do Algarve, Publituris reports.

The operations of Norwegian Cruise Line, represented in Portugal by Pinto Basto, have made a significant contribution to the results achieved by the Port of Portimão in 2026.

So far, the year 2026 has brought 48 cruise ships and a total of 48,669 passengers to the Port of Portimão. In comparison, the year 2025 had a total of 56 cruise ships and 23,996 passengers.

According to Publituris, 90 cruise ships are planned for the Port of Portimão in 2026, a number that is expected to increase to 117 by 2027.

This performance aligns with the objectives defined in the Ports 5+ Strategy, which foresees the strengthening of passenger traffic in the mainland’s commercial ports, Publituris reports.

APS has been reinforcing its operational and competitive conditions for the Port of Portimão with the early completion of maintenance dredging, which allowed the restoration of depths of -8m(ZH) in the access channel and turning basin, along with the installation of new quays for tender berthing.

Other initiatives are also under way, such as the rehabilitation of the ro-ro ramp, the improvement of land access to the Maritime Terminal, and the future installation of an onshore power supply unit for ships in port.

The upgrade of the Port of Portimão reinforces its capacity to respond to the demands of the cruise market with high standards of safety, quality and sustainability.
