One of the Algarve’s best-known beaches, Praia da Rocha in Portimão attracts both locals and visitors every year. With its wide stretch of sand and plenty of facilities, it is a popular choice for all ages, whether you want to spend the day relaxing or prefer something more active.

For families with children, there is plenty of space to play, a playground and a good choice of restaurants and cafés nearby. Having somewhere close for lunch, an ice cream or a coffee makes a full day at the beach a little bit easier.

Those who enjoy being active can try water sports or join a game of beach volleyball. There is also a sports area on the sand, with activities including basketball and beach football.

Restaurants and bars line the wooden walkway along the beach, with even more choice in the streets above. During the summer months, the area stays busy long after sunset, as beachgoers head out for dinner or drinks.

Before heading down to the sand, stop at the Miradouro dos Três Castelos. From here, you can look across Praia da Rocha and the neighbouring Praia dos Três Castelos, with its distinctive rock formations. It is a lovely spot to take a few photos.
