Coming to Guia soon – again!

Last year, in fact on 9th March, saw the grand opening of a charity shop dedicated to raising funds for Tiny Shelter, a sanctuary for pre-loved dogs, waifs and strays out in the wilds of Albufeira. Hundreds of dogs have been taken in and cared for, ailments sorted, loved and attended to until new loving homes have been found. Not an easy task by any means, as some of the dogs are old and sick or have been treated badly; others are puppies of indeterminate parenthood that, through no fault of their own, need care and attention before moving into new homes.

The 101 Donations shop has been spearheaded by Donna McFadden, and has proved an overwhelming success through her and her team’s dedication and enthusiasm, turning customers’ cast-offs into treasures for others by some pretty nifty marketing. Every week Donna showcases a ‘hanger rail’ of clothing, with details of sizes and prices, which makes you want to go in and buy the lot! Skilfully keeping up interest, the store window is often colour co-ordinated or decorated to suit the season, and I know that customers go back time and time again to browse the racks and take home some treasures, leaving well-needed cash for the doggies’ welfare.

101 Donations Forever Home

Well, now there is something else afoot. The 101 Donations team is upping their game by securing a new store, still in Guia, but this time the items up for grabs will be furniture, hand-picked by Donna and her team, so check ahead first if there is something you would like to donate, as not all items of furniture will either fit in the shop or be suitable. Many times, furniture has been turned away from the existing store as the focus has been on clothing only, and they didn’t have the space for furniture as well, but now the idea of harnessing another income source is a reality, and the doors will be opened very soon for some great bargains, with funds raised still going to Tiny Shelter for their increasing needs, which could be as simple as food or as complex as veterinary care for injured or sick creatures, to fencing or maintenance of the area as a whole.

Unfortunately, opening the second store comes with a price – a store rental and the set up costs need to be covered, which if taken from funds raised, decreases the amount of cash available for dog care, so if you would like to help out as a sponsor for the rent, whether it be for a one-off donation, a regular monthly or three monthly offering, or even for a year, it would be welcomed. Any amount would be accepted with grateful thanks, but a regular donation would be great so there would be one less thing for the store to worry about. 101 Donations are a recognised charity, and even companies can donate, giving them breaks from their taxable income if the contributions support certified charities – which 101 Donations certainly is.
