The Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructure, Berta Cabral, said Tuesday that the Azorean Executive is "working in a serious, competent and well-founded manner" on the creation of the air route fund for the region, ECO News reports.

“We are working seriously, competently and with a solid foundation to build an effective instrument that is legally robust and fully compatible with the European legal framework. Our goal is to create a mechanism that produces concrete, sustainable and lasting results for the Azores,” Cabral said.

The Air Route Development Fund was approved by the regional parliament in May and entered into force on June 18. According to Cabral, the Government of the Azores is in the process of creating the fund, emphasizing that this is "a complex matter, which requires solid preparation and compliance with various national and European legal and regulatory requirements.”

The route fund was created two months ago, and according to Cabral, it has been a period of mobilising the relevant entities, gathering specialized contributions, and developing the technical structure necessary for the fund’s implementation.

The Regional Government's position comes after the PS/Azores parliamentary group demanded the "rapid implementation" of the route fund in the region. The aim is to provide more air connections, ensuring greater stability for the tourism sector and improving mobility for residents.
