The initiative takes place on 20 and 21 August and is being organised by AlgarOrange, the association representing operators of Citrinos do Algarve IGP.

Agroportal reports that five hotels are taking part in the campaign, which aims to introduce visitors to Algarve citrus fruit while they are staying in the region where it is produced.

The oranges carry the Citrinos do Algarve IGP designation, which identifies citrus fruit with characteristics and a reputation linked to its geographical origin in the Algarve.

The campaign forms part of the Internacionalizar + Algarve 3.0 project, which is designed to strengthen the international profile of products and services associated with the region.

Sul Informação reports that the wider project involves several regional organisations, including NERA – Business Association of the Algarve Region, the Algarve Tourism Association, the Algarve Wine Commission, the Algarve Tourism Board and the University of Algarve.

The idea is to introduce more visitors to Algarve oranges by giving hotel guests the chance to taste the local fruit during their stay.

Further promotional activities under the project are expected to continue until December.
AlgarOrange was established in 2018 and represents producers and other businesses involved in the production and commercialisation of Citrinos do Algarve IGP.
