Owned by the Amorim family, the estate is located in Silvã de Cima, in the municipality of Sátão, and has a connection to wine dating back to Roman times.
Evidence of occupation at Taboadella goes back to the first century, with one of the most important remains being an ancient wine press carved into a large rock. Today, the historic site sits alongside a contemporary winery overlooking the estate's vineyards and surrounding forest.

Architect Carlos Castanheira designed the modern winery, which was constructed using natural materials, particularly wood and cork. Visitors can also walk along the Barrel Top Walk, a raised wooden walkway positioned above the barrel room.
Wine remains at the centre of the experience. Taboadella's Wine House is located in the property's former granary, which was restored as a shop and tasting room. Open daily, it is the starting point for winery visits and several wine tastings, with the option to pair the wines with cheeses from Serra da Estrela.
However, the estate's offerings extend beyond traditional wine tastings.
Visitors can tour the property in a Bedford van dating from 1964 or take part in the grape harvest, while food experiences include a three-course tasting menu at Casa Villae 1255 and brunch on the winery's terrace. There is also the option of walking from the estate to Rio Côvo, close to the slopes of Serra da Nave.
A series of activities has also been created around Dão traditions. These include workshops in basket making, ceramics, cheese and sweet production, as well as preparing teas and infusions and seasonal mushroom picking. The aim is to introduce visitors to local traditions and offer another way to discover the region beyond its wines.
A private stay among the vineyards
Accommodation is available at Casa Villae 1255, a medieval property which has been restored and transformed into an eight-bedroom house.
It became the first wine-producing estate in the Dão to carry the Relais & Châteaux name and is offered exclusively to one group at a time, with a minimum stay of two nights. The 720-square-metre house can accommodate families, groups of friends and corporate groups.
Seven bedrooms with private bathrooms are located on the first floor, while the upper floor has a mountain-style room with space for six people, particularly designed for younger guests. Bedrooms overlook either the vineyards or the winery, while traditional materials and products from the region have been incorporated throughout the property.
A stay includes breakfast, a welcome basket, cleaning service and a visit to the winery and vineyards. Guests can also arrange additional experiences in advance, including private dinners with a chef, yoga and Pilates classes and other personalised activities.
Local products and traditions also form part of the wider Taboadella project. The Wine House features products from regional producers and artisans, ranging from ceramics to the traditional Cobertor de Papa blankets produced in Maçainhas and Serra da Estrela cheese.
Through its combination of vineyards, accommodation, gastronomy and local experiences, Taboadella offers visitors several ways to discover the Dão while maintaining a strong connection to the history and traditions of the region
