Alongside the return of the adult choir, the association is also pleased to announce that applications are now open for the new Ideias do Levante Youth Choir (Coro Juvenil Ideias do Levante), aimed at young people in Lagoa and surrounding areas who wish to develop their vocal skills and experience group singing.


About Coral Ideias do Levante

Founded in 1996 as part of the Ideias do Levante Cultural Association, Coral Ideias do Levante is a mixed community choir based in Lagoa, Algarve. Over three decades, it has performed an eclectic repertoire — from classical to gospel, pop to traditional — as a tool for musical education and audience development. The group is supported by the Municipality of Lagoa and the parish councils of the municipality of Lagoa.

The choir performs mainly in Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, and German, bringing together members of various ages and nationalities, and has performed in several locations across the Iberian Peninsula. It regularly organises benchmark events in the Algarve’s cultural calendar, with a particular highlight on the Lagoa Coral Week (Semana Coral de Lagoa), held annually since 2001.

Since September 2021, the choir has been led by artistic director Maria Saramago, a choral conductor and singing teacher trained at the Lisbon School of Music with extensive experience in choral groups and music conservatoires throughout Portugal.

A new season — new members welcome (Adult & Youth Choirs)

The start of a new season is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in choral singing to explore the association’s musical initiatives:

- Coral Ideias do Levante (Adult Choir): The first trial rehearsal is free of charge, and no prior musical experience is required — just a willingness to learn and a commitment to regular attendance. The process of joining takes place in four stages: expressing interest, a trial period of approximately one month, approval by the artistic director, and registration as a Friend Member of Ideias do Levante;

- Ideias do Levante Youth Choir: Registration is now open for young singers who want to join this new musical project in Lagoa. Details regarding schedules and rehearsals can be obtained via the official contacts or project website.
