Both will be developed within existing buildings rather than constructed from scratch, with openings expected within the next two years. One will be a five-star hotel and the other a four-star property, although their exact locations have not yet been revealed.

At least one of the hotels will operate under Anantara, Minor Hotels’ luxury brand, marking its return to Portugal following the transfer of the former Anantara Vilamoura to Accor.

The brand chosen for the second hotel has yet to be announced.

Minor grows in Portugal

The group currently operates 17 hotels in Portugal, with properties in Lisbon, the Algarve, Porto, Coimbra and Sintra under brands including Tivoli, NH Collection, NH and Avani.

Minor acquired the Portuguese-born Tivoli Hotels & Resorts business in 2016 and has continued to expand and renovate its portfolio in the country.

This year saw Tivoli Coimbra reopen following a complete renovation, upgrading the 100-room property to five-star status. In the Algarve, the former Tivoli Lagos Algarve Resort was repositioned as the NH Lagos Algarve Resort.

The two latest hotels will add to another Anantara development already planned for Portugal. Minor is transforming a 16th-century former convent in Vila Viçosa into the Anantara Royal Vila Viçosa Resort, currently scheduled to open in 2027.

That project is separate from the two newly announced properties.

Minor Hotels operates more than 640 hotels across 63 countries, but its latest plans show Portugal remains firmly on its expansion map.

For now, the precise locations of the two hotels remain under wraps, with further details expected as the projects move forward.
