The mayor of Viseu, João Azevedo, said that the three primary and early childhood education schools in the municipality will be the target of improvement, renovation and modernisation.

The schools in question are the Rolando de Oliveira Primary School, in Abraveses, the Rio de Loba Kindergarten and the Aquilino Ribeiro Primary School and Kindergarten, in Viseu.

To journalists, at the end of the meeting, the mayor said that in recent months "some small rehabilitation works have been, and are being, carried out" in the primary schools of Pascoal (Abraveses), Avenida (Viseu), Povolide, São João de Lourosa, João de Barros (Viseu) and Portela (São Cipriano and Vil de Soito).

“We are working permanently in the schools, and we are talking about money from the Viseu City Council budget; it is not funded,” said João Azevedo.

The mayor recalled that the works on two schools are also nearing completion, with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR): Dr. Azeredo Perdigão (Abraveses) and D. Duarte (Vil de Soito), investments of €7.6 million.

In the medium term, we will also expand the João de Barros School. That is, a new building will be constructed with capacity for eight to nine classrooms and, perhaps, also a pavilion, to meet the intense demand in the parish of Viseu,” he announced.

This start of the school year is also marked by the announcement of the final phase of the works at the Viso School and the Infante Dom Henrique School.

We are talking about investments that are nearing completion or for the short and medium term, to be carried out during my term, in the order of €15 million,” stressed the mayor, acknowledging that the €7.6 million from the PRR are part of that amount.

The Deputy Mayor, responsible for the Education area, Adelino Azevedo Pinto, added that this is a response from the executive after “a visit to all the schools in the municipality”, which allowed them to “understand the existing concerns”.
