As reported by AIMA, the agency handled over 60 percent more effective attendances between January and June than during the same period last year.
Operational capacity
The increase was recorded consistently throughout the six months, which the agency attributes to measures introduced to reorganise its services and enhance operational capacity.
Meanwhile, the proportion of complaints relative to attendances fell substantially.
AIMA recorded 35.8 percent fewer complaints than in the first half of 2025, while the average complaint rate dropped from 6.9 percent to 2.7 percent.
According to the agency, the figures reflect improvements in the organisation of its services, its ability to respond to citizens and the overall quality of the assistance provided.
Positive feedback
There has also been an increase in positive feedback, with an average of around 32 compliments a month at its shops between January and June, which it says reflects growing recognition from citizens of improvements to its services.
During the same period, AIMA joined the Electronic Complaints Book (Livro Amarelo Eletrónico), giving citizens an additional digital channel through which to submit complaints and other feedback.
The agency said the system is intended to make it easier for people to communicate with AIMA while increasing transparency and accessibility, complementing existing channels for citizen participation.

I recently submitted my residency renewal to AIMA, carefully ensuring that I followed the AIMA instructions explicitly. Application approved and new card card sent to me in just over two months.
No issues or complaints. For those who have trouble, perhaps pay attention to the directions!

AIMA getting better!!!! What a shambles AIMA is.
My card is 18 months out of date.
I live in the Algarve, eventually got a appointment for renewal.....in Porto, 6 hrs drive.
Booked a hotel for 2 nights, at a great expense, 2 days before my due date I get a email saying they have moved my appointment back a month!!! No refund on the hotel, so that cost me.
Rang AIMA, ( after 30min on hold) who suggested i email to ask for a appointment in the Algarve area, so I did....3 weeks ago, nothing!!!!
So AIMA is improving, if this is a improvement, help us when they are bad.!!!

My temporary residence expired in April, 2025. I was allowed by AIMA to submit my documents for renewal only in September 2025. I got my residence approved in February 2026 - and until now, September 2026 (17 months) I still haven’t received my card.
I have used Levramento to file the complaint against AIMA on 8th of July, 2026 - AIMA responded 40 days later: we are reviewing your case. Then the next day they requested SEGURANCIA certificate. I sent the certificate. This is madness - my residence has been officially approved since February by AIMA - I have the QR code - WHERE IS MY CARD? The bank wants to freeze my account - I can’t travel to conferences to present my research. 1 year and 5 months and counting without residence card, and complaints don’t work.

This is total nonsense. I am happy for the people who have received their documents. I had my biometrics appointment in September 2025. It wasn’t until August of 2026 after repetitive request they finally said it has been moved from Odivelas to Porto. And now it is stuck in Porto and status shows that it was submitted on September 8 of 2026 and it is now being evaluated. This is a crap organization from top down. Just because complaints have gone down doesn’t mean they improved. It means people have given up and nobody including attorneys can get any status update from them.
