British manufacturer Martin-Baker’s Ejection Tie Club has more than 6,000 registered members.

Members receive a distinctive tie and other memorabilia recognising their survival, creating an unusual international community among military ejection survivors.


Martin-Baker established its Ejection Tie Club in 1957 and says its ejection seats have saved more than 7,700 aircrew.

Membership is reserved for people who have ejected using one of its seats. Members receive a tie, certificate, membership card, pin and patch.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Collins Aerospace operates a similar Grasshopper Club, associated with equipment credited with saving 730 lives.
