More than 600 modern board games will be available to try at this year’s
This year, AlgarveCon returns on 3 and 4 October to Faro, bringing more than 600 modern board games, with a programme aimed at both newcomers and experienced players.
The eighth edition of the Algarve Board Games Convention will take place at the Regional Directorate of the Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth (IPDJ), next to Jardim da Alameda.
Organised by Associação Sê Mais Sê Melhor and Clube MTG de Olhão, the convention attracted over 800 people last year.
According to the organisers, this year’s edition will expand the range of games and activities on offer.
Library of games
The event’s library of games will be open throughout the two days, with volunteers available to explain the rules and help visitors choose something to play.
This collection is intended to cater for different ages and levels of experience, including people who have never played modern board games before.
Furthermore, the programme extends beyond traditional board games, offering visitors the opportunity to take part in narrative gaming sessions, including tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), as well as workshops, tournaments, and an escape room.
There will also be a dedicated area for collectable card games and Beyblade, while a second-hand market will give visitors the chance to browse pre-owned games.
Origins
The AlgarveCon began as a small gathering organised by board game enthusiasts and has since grown into one of the region’s larger events centred on board games and geek culture.
This convention aims to bring together families, friends and players of different generations, creating an opportunity to socialise, discover new hobbies and meet other people with similar interests.
