After a historic 2025, which saw more than 69,000 spectators and 39 sold-out sessions, the Faro-based institution now intends to discuss the intersection of AI and artistic creation, addressing topics such as intellectual property and the evolving paradigms of copyright law.
Gil Silva, the theatre's Managing Director, emphasises that the objective is to examine the impact of technology on the arts, culminating in a conference dedicated to this theme in November.
The commitment to co-productions remains strong, with notable projects involving ArQuente, Companhia Olga Roriz, and casaBranca, the latter of which premiered "Tecno-Zombies". Musically, the theatre's 21st anniversary will be celebrated with a concert by Maria João, André Mehmari, and Carlos Bica, as part of a calendar that also includes the new "Noites à Margem" cycle, the "Os Dias Do Jazz" festival in May, and a cycle dedicated to Fado featuring artists such as Camané and Carminho.
In the area of thought, Teatro das Figuras will continue the "The Invisibles" project and organise a ZOOM meeting in April, reinforcing its role in cultural mediation and its proximity to the school community.
The 2026 program also features a strong international component and a diverse range of genres, welcoming artists such as Tommy Guerrero and the Compañía María Pagés, as well as large-scale productions such as the opera "Un Baile de Máscaras" by the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.
The programming extends beyond its walls with the return of the "Abordo" concept on the barrier islands and the "Musical Dialogues" in Largo da Sé.
António Miguel Pina, Chairman of the Board, reaffirms the space's ambition to consolidate itself as the main cultural reference south of the Tagus River, promoting an inclusive artistic ecosystem attentive to the challenges of modernity.
