The test uses a blood sample to detect DNA released by cancer cells. In a study, the test achieved an overall accuracy of 98 percent in identifying the disease. With the blood test, 93 percent of cases were diagnosed within the first week of sample collection.

The study involved children and young adults across four hospitals in Tanzania and Uganda. Among 81 confirmed cases, 86.4 percent were correctly identified using the blood test. In addition, the test provided diagnoses on average 40.3 days faster than tissue biopsy methods.
