Passengers arriving at Faro Airport today faced long queues and some confusion around the airport’s e-gate system.
While many of the electronic passport gates appeared to be operating normally, others were out of service, creating bottlenecks in the arrivals hall. Several passengers told The Portugal News they were unable to use the e-gates after their biometric details appeared to have been removed from the system.
Others reported successfully passing through the gates only to find themselves unsure where to go next, with some being redirected into traditional passport control lines. Many travellers could be seen asking one another for directions as staff worked to manage the flow of arrivals.
For those waiting in the lengthy queues, the FIFA Club World Cup was being shown on screens nearby, providing some entertainment during the delays.
