The building had been for sale since 2019, and the deed was signed on 6 August, as revealed by Pedro Pimenta, president of the Agricultural Cooperative.

The building will have more than six thousand square meters of construction index in the city centre, next to the river. The sale of the property could lead to a new investment in housing in the city, rehabilitating a five-story building.

Pedro Pimenta also reveals that during the sales period, several proposals emerged, but with values below expectations, as the goal was to sell the building for a value close to six million euros. For him, the circulation of the Metro Mondego, Coimbra's metrobus, would have helped to create more interest in the area.

Quoted by the Lusa news agency, Pedro Pimenta reveals that, before the completion of the works, the investors did not believe that they could materialise, as the work had been delayed for several years. In addition to the metrobus, the suspension of the Municipal Master Plan for the riverside area of Coimbra may also have influenced the decision of the Spanish investors.

After the sale of the building, the Coimbra Agricultural Cooperative does not intend to give up. With the money from the sale of the property, Pedro Pimenta hopes that a new Cooperative will be born, which will continue to serve those who have always sought these services.

In addition to the possibility of acquiring a new store, Pedro Pimenta also emphasises that the Cooperative will thus be able to alleviate some banking responsibilities, either in full or in part. As well as investing in new investments such as its own grain drying and storage unit.
