“After record highs in passenger traffic were recorded at national airports during the first five months of 2026, a slight decrease was observed in June. That month, an average of 118.7 thousand passengers disembarked daily, 0.1% fewer than in June 2025,” noted Statistics Portugal (INE).

Regarding the cumulative figures up to June, the number of passengers handled at national airports rose by 2.5% compared to 2025 (+4.8% in 2025), reaching 35.341 million.

International travellers

During these six months, Lisbon Airport accounted for 49.4% of the total, handling 17.4 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 1.3%.

Porto Airport handled 8.5 million passengers (23.9% of the total), recording 7.0% growth, while Faro Airport handled 4.8 million passengers (13.6% of the total), representing a year-on-year increase of 3.8%.

An analysis of passenger volumes for international arrivals and departures in the first half of the year shows that the United Kingdom remained the primary country of origin and destination, with year-on-year increases of 4.3% and 4.7%, respectively.

France, Spain, and Germany held the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. At the same time, Italy maintained fifth place among the main destination countries and also held the same position among the main countries of origin.
