The Castelo de São João do Arade is probably the first thing you will notice when you arrive. Standing between Praia da Angrinha and Praia Grande, the castle gives this small beach a completely different character and makes a great backdrop for photos.

Praia da Angrinha is also a good choice for families with children. There is a large parking area just a few steps from the sand, so you don't have to carry all your beach things very far, which is always a bonus when coming with kids.

There is no café or other beach service directly on Praia da Angrinha, but nearby Praia Grande has several places to eat and drink. At low tide, you can walk along the sand towards Praia Grande, passing directly below the castle. When the tide is high, you can swim around or follow the path to the other side and take the steps down to Praia Grande.

The water at Praia da Angrinha is usually calm and, from the beach, you also have lovely views across the Arade River towards Portimão and its marina.

Another thing I like about this beach is how close it is to the centre of Ferragudo. After spending a few hours by the sea, you can walk across the parking area and through a narrow passage between the buildings, which brings you into the traditional fishermen's part of the village.

From there, you will find several seafood restaurants, and it is only a short walk further into the centre of Ferragudo, making it easy to combine a beach day with lunch, dinner or a walk around the village.

Best for: Families, calm water, easy parking and combining a beach day with a visit to Ferragudo
