"According to Nepalese authorities, one national citizen has been rescued," the ministry indicated, adding that "two Portuguese women remain missing."

The Nepalese disaster management agency reported that 987 deaths have been recorded in the country and that 3,916 people remain missing, including 583 foreigners.

Chinese authorities had counted 16 deaths in the most recent update, released on 30 August, raising the number of fatalities in the two countries to at least 1,003.

At least 11,814 people have been rescued so far, according to Nepalese authorities.

The 26 August catastrophe originated from a succession of phenomena in the high-altitude areas of the Himalayas.
