Opened in 1997, the station brings together modern architecture and public art in one of the city’s important neighbourhoods.

Carnide has a strong local identity, with old streets, traditional buildings and a connection to Lisbon’s religious and cultural history. The Metro station offers a more modern contrast, showing how contemporary design can also be present and be integrated at an older neighbourhood.

The station was designed by architect Paulo Brito da Silva, with artistic work by the Portuguese artist José de Guimarães. His colourful and expressive style adds a strong visual character to the station.
