It is a perfect place to have lunch, but you can also come just to stroll around and enjoy the busy atmosphere. People move between the food counters, browse the shops and settle at the long shared tables. With so much going on, we enjoyed taking a look around before deciding where to stop.
The market is inside the historic Mercado da Ribeira, on Avenida 24 de Julho in the Cais do Sodré area. It was a food market long before Time Out arrived, and fresh produce vendors still trade in one of its wings.
Time Out Market opened here in 2014, following an idea from the Time Out Portugal team.

They wanted to bring some of the restaurants and food businesses featured in their magazine together under one roof. Lisbon was the first Time Out Market; the concept has since expanded to other cities, including Porto and New York.
Whether you are hungry or just passing through Cais do Sodré, it is worth stepping inside for a look.
