For CJD’s youngest students, going back to school came with plenty of reasons to smile. Inflatable slides and outdoor activities transformed the return into a colourful and lively celebration, giving children the opportunity to play, reconnect with friends and become familiar once again with the school environment.

For younger children in particular, the first days of a new academic year can play an important role in helping them settle back into their routines. Combining the return to the classroom with moments of play and interaction helped create a welcoming atmosphere and made the transition from the summer holidays feel more natural.

Older students started the year in a rather different setting. Secondary students were brought together for a sunset event, offering an informal opportunity to catch up after the summer, meet new classmates and enjoy time together before the academic year moved into full rhythm.

The programme also took students beyond the school campus, with a walk surrounded by nature. Alongside the physical activity itself, the experience provided an opportunity to talk, explore and spend time together away from the usual classroom setting.

Different age groups, different activities, but a common idea behind them: starting the school year by creating opportunities for students to reconnect with one another and with the wider school community.

At CJD, experiences such as these form part of an approach to education that extends beyond academic learning. Outdoor activities, informal social moments and shared experiences can contribute to building relationships, encouraging wellbeing and strengthening students’ sense of belonging.

As classrooms fill again and another academic year gets underway, the first days at CJD offered students a gradual and engaging return to school life. From inflatable slides for the youngest children to a sunset gathering for older students and time spent together in nature, the new year began with a strong emphasis on community, connection and shared experiences.
