Based on data released by ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, DREM notes that these 606,200 passengers were carried on 3,919 commercial flights, up 2.5% from August of the previous year.
At Madeira Airport, traffic rose by 3.8% in terms of passengers (566,500) and by 3.3% in aircraft movements (3,594).
Meanwhile, at Porto Santo Airport, despite a 1.8% growth in passenger numbers (39,700), there was a 5.2% decrease in the number of aircraft (325), according to the statement released by DREM.
Aircraft load factors at the autonomous region’s airports hovered around 91.9% in August, slightly higher than the 90.3% recorded in the same month last year.
By traffic category, the international segment rose 3.5% to 338,500 passengers, while domestic traffic grew 4% to 267,700.
On the island of Madeira, international traffic (59.1% of the total) predominated over domestic traffic, whereas in Porto Santo, domestic traffic accounted for 90.4% of the total.
