The suspects, aged 19 and 26, were caught by the GNR on 1 October near a CTT branch while carrying parcels worth around €3,500.
The GNR said the men allegedly pretended to be CTT employees in order to collect parcels for supposed deliveries without making the required payment.
The older suspect had previously worked for CTT, which, according to the GNR, meant he was familiar with the procedures used for collecting and distributing parcels.
One of the men was also wearing a CTT vest when the pair were intercepted, helping him appear to be an employee of the postal company.
Seizure of illegal drugs
Following the arrests, officers searched the suspects' homes in the municipality of Albufeira.
Four parcels were recovered during the searches, along with a number of bags, shoes, watches and items of clothing. Police also seized two mobile phones, a laptop, a CTT vest and a precision scale.
The searches also resulted in the seizure of 10 doses of hashish, one dose of cannabis and 0.89 grams of MDMA.
Joint police operation
The operation was carried out by the Silves Criminal Investigation Unit of the Faro Territorial Command, with support from the GNR Territorial Post in Armação de Pêra.
The two suspects appeared before the Silves Judicial Court for their first judicial questioning and were ordered to report periodically to the police station in their respective areas of residence while the case continues.
