The “Haja Polvo” event is organised by the parish council, with an exhibition, a themed parade and a tourist route also planned.

Postal reported that participating restaurants will each prepare an octopus tapa or small tasting dish especially for the occasion. Tastings will cost between €5 and €8, including a drink.

Visitors can buy a €2 passport from the parish council or participating establishments to follow the route. It also gives them entry into a prize draw after the event.

Capital celebrations

The celebrations begin on World Octopus Day, Thursday, 8 October, and run until Sunday, 11 October.

Known as the “Capital of Octopus”, Santa Luzia has a long history of octopus fishing, a tradition reflected in the menus of its local restaurants.

The parish council hopes the event will encourage residents and visitors to try different restaurants while discovering more about the village. Alongside the food, the exhibition, parade and tourist route will explore its history and the fishing traditions passed down through generations.
