The programme, organised by the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA), includes events and campaigns promoting different sides of the region, from luxury and business travel to nature, wellbeing, golf, diving and cycling. Improving air connections to the Algarve is also part of this month's programme.

One of the major events already taking place in the Algarve is the M&I Flagship Algarve at Pine Cliffs Resort in Albufeira, running from 4 to 7 October. The event brings together 155 European buyers specialising in business tourism and professional events, with Turismo do Algarve scheduling around 40 individual meetings with potential international partners.

Reaching new international markets

Later this month, the Algarve will turn its attention to the North American luxury market. The first Journeys Algarve will take place at Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, in Loulé, from 14 to 17 October, bringing around 40 specialist buyers from the United States and Canada to the region.

According to Barlavento, this will be preceded by a familiarisation trip between 11 and 14 October, giving selected North American buyers the opportunity to experience the destination before the event.

The Algarve will be represented for the first time at LOOP Wellbeing in Mallorca, taking place from 22 to 25 October. The region will also take part in Diving Talks 2026 in Lisbon, with diving among the tourism products being promoted this month.

International media spotlight on Algarve

Several groups of international journalists are also coming to the Algarve. From 7 to 11 October, eight journalists from the UK will visit the region to discover its water sports and activities for families.

A group of eight German journalists will follow from 8 to 12 October, with their visit centred around walking and some of the Algarve's routes and trails.

Other visits are scheduled during the month for journalists from the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the UK. Towards the end of October, another group will travel along the Rota Vicentina by bike.

The Algarve will also be featured in an episode of French travel programme Les Échappées Belles, broadcast by France 5. Filming is planned between 19 and 29 October, with the programme expected to showcase the region's gastronomy, culture, heritage, nature and local people. The episode is expected to reach more than two million viewers through television broadcasts, repeats and digital platforms.

Promoting the Algarve across Europe

The international programme also takes Turismo do Algarve to events in Las Vegas, Rimini, Cannes, Dubrovnik and Frankfurt, as well as promotional meetings in Poland and the Czech Republic.

André Gomes, president of Turismo do Algarve, said the programme reflects changing travel habits and the need to continue finding new ways of presenting the region to different types of visitors.
