The plan drawn up by Tavira Municipal Council will run from October to June 2027, offering residents the chance to take part in free activities suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

To this end, the council has partnered with Casa do Povo de Santo Estêvão, the Tavira Sailing Club, the Tavira Swimming Club, the RIA – Aqua Club, and the Tavira Bike Team Club, all of which have specialists in physical education and sport to develop the programme.

The council states that the plan aims to comply with the national guidelines of the National Strategy for the Promotion of Physical Activity, Health and Well-being, which seeks to “reduce levels of physical inactivity throughout the life cycle and provide a diverse range of free sporting activities”.

For all ages

The “Crescer em Movimento” programme targets young people aged three to 17 and comprises various projects. Meanwhile, the “Infantários em Movimento” programme takes place in schools and targets children in nursery and pre-school. As for “Move-te na Escola”, the target audience will be children in primary school.

The “Desportiv@mente” programme, meanwhile, targets children and young people in the care of social welfare institutions in the municipality.

For older people aged 18 to 55, Tavira will run the “Põe-te a Mexer” programme, which includes the “Gimnasticando” project, offering fitness classes and aerobics twice a week in the parishes.

For those aged 55 and over, the “Viva+” programme is available, including “ActiveSenior”, which offers the opportunity to take part in aqua aerobics at the municipal swimming pools.
