It is known for the tall rock formations rising from the water, which make the view feel quite different from many of the Algarve’s wider beaches.
When we visited in October, the weather was still lovely, and there were plenty of people enjoying the beach. It was one of those warm autumn days when you could sit by the sea, enjoy the sunshine and almost forget that summer was over.

The beach is small and rocky in places, so it may not be the best choice if you are looking for a long swim. But the clear water makes it a lovely spot for snorkelling, and the rocks and little pools are especially nice to explore when the tide is low. At high tide, much of the sand can disappear, so it is worth checking the conditions before you go.

Even if you do not plan to spend the whole day on the beach, Praia dos Arrifes is worth visiting just for the views. The rock formations look beautiful from the shore, and it is easy to spend a while taking photos or simply watching the water.
Restaurant A Sardinha, right beside the beach, is a lovely place to stop for lunch. Fresh seafood, the sound of the sea and a table overlooking this little cove make a very good combination.
