In a statement, the CREPC said that in the district of Faro, there were a total of 36 incidents related to bad weather between midday on Monday, 9 February, and midday on 10 February, with no “significant impact on the safety of people and property.”

Most of the incidents were due to mass movements (landslides and rockfalls), with the municipality of Aljezur being the most affected, with five incidents, followed by Portimão (four), Monchique (three), Silves (two), and Vila do Bispo, Faro, and Lagoa, with one incident each.

The operations involved 104 personnel, supported by 54 land vehicles, in cleaning and clearing roads (nine), fallen structures (eight), and fallen trees (two), as specified by Civil Protection.

“The incidents were recorded in several municipalities in the region and were promptly resolved at the municipal level, without the need for external reinforcement and without significant impact on the safety of people and property,” the note reads.

According to the Algarve Regional Civil Protection Authority, in the context of the “adverse weather situation,” political, institutional, and operational coordination mechanisms have been activated following the declaration of a contingency, which will remain in effect until 11:59 pm on Sunday.

The municipalities of Silves, Monchique, Vila Real de Santo António, Alcoutim, and Castro Marim are keeping their municipal emergency and civil protection plans active, with São Brás de Alportel on alert.

The municipalities of Silves, Vila Real de Santo António, Alcoutim, and Castro Marim also remain in a state of contingency.
