Named the Manifesto Library, it is the first permanent physical location for the singer's book club and is housed in Livraria Lello's new cultural auditorium, designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza.

According to a joint statement released by Livraria Lello and Service95, the library brings together 100 books that explore themes including power, censorship, exclusion and memory. The collection is divided into four sections – Power, Control, Voice and Memory – and has been designed not only as a place to read, but also as a venue for cultural events, discussions and public debate.

The opening also marks the first permanent home for the Service95 Book Club, which Dua Lipa launched as part of her editorial platform. The book club features monthly reading recommendations selected by the singer, alongside interviews with authors from around the world.

A place to come together

In the statement, Dua Lipa said the ambition behind the project was to create a place where readers and writers could come together, regardless of where they live.

"Reading brings us closer together, but unfortunately, not everyone believes in that. This library is a sanctuary for books that have disappeared, for authors whose courage has challenged structures of power and control, and for readers who refuse to be told which books they can or cannot read," she said.

Importance of literature

Livraria Lello Brand Director Francisca Pedro Pinto said the project reflects the bookshop's long-held belief in the importance of literature.

"For 120 years, Livraria Lello has been built on one simple conviction: that books are a technology of freedom. The Manifesto Library was born from that belief because what is at stake is not only the future of reading, but society's ability to imagine, interpret and shape its own future," she said in the same statement.

The collection includes books such as The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and Felon by Reginald Dwayne Betts, as well as other works that have been banned, censored or removed from shelves in different parts of the world.
