The mayor also said that “no one has shared information about any injured persons or property destroyed in the municipality” of Tondela.

The Vouzela fire, which started at 3:04 am on Thursday in Tourelhe, parish of Cambra, then spread to the municipalities of Oliveira de Frades and Tondela, also in the district of Viseu, and to Águeda, district of Aveiro.

According to Civil Defence, on Friday, there were two serious injuries. A 55-year-old man with second and third-degree burns, while trying to put out the fire, and another 34-year-old man suffered a serious head injury when he fell from a private van that was transporting water to fight the fire.

To date, there are six minor injuries to report, three volunteer firefighters, one sapper, and two civilians, one of them in the municipality of Águeda.

On Friday, this fire completely destroyed a factory in Vouzela that produced wood components, biomass for energy production, and even poultry farms and animals.

According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), at the beginning of today, this fire had burned an area of ​​12,160 hectares and is expanding, as it has remained active for more than 48 hours.

The more than 12,000 hectares counted on July 2nd and 3rd correspond to approximately 17,000 11-a-side football pitches.
