Demand for air conditioning installation, maintenance and repair services surged in June, but a shortage of available professionals meant that many customers were left without a response, according to data from Fixando.

The online services platform recorded a 121 percent increase in requests compared with May, while the average response rate dropped from 74 percent to 51 percent over the same period, idealista reports.

Maintenance requests

Installation services accounted for the largest share of demand, representing 57 percent of all requests and rising by 110 percent month-on-month.

Maintenance services made up 22 percent of requests but experienced the strongest growth, increasing by 157 percent. Repair services represented the remaining 21 percent, with demand climbing by 120 percent.

Struggle to meet demand

The sharp rise in requests significantly affected service availability.

Repair services were the hardest hit, with 75 percent of requests receiving no response. Maintenance followed, with 57 percent unanswered, while 39 percent of installation requests went without a reply.

Alice Nunes, Director of New Business at Fixando, said the company is witnessing “a structural change in demand”, adding that air conditioning is no longer viewed as a luxury but as an essential household need during increasingly frequent periods of extreme heat.

She said this shift is placing growing pressure on professionals, whose capacity is beginning to show signs of saturation.

Fixando estimates that response rates could continue to fall throughout the summer, potentially dropping to around 30 percent by the end of the season.

Average prices continue to rise

The increase in demand has also been reflected in prices.

According to Fixando, the average cost of an air conditioning installation has risen to 400 euros, an increase of 60 euros compared with last year. Meanwhile, the average price for maintenance services has increased by €31 to €136.
