Last year, Portuguese residents went on a total of 22.2 million holiday trips within national borders, marking a 14% increase over 2024.
According to Odisseias’s analysis, the growth comes from an increase in short, periodic holidays spread over the year.
Another revelation that came from this research is that 85.2% of all holiday trips made by Portuguese residents happen without leaving the country.
An alternative experience
On average, around 1,200 people are on an Odisseias experience every day, creating a steady pipeline of customers for the host of restaurants, hotels, spas, and leisure companies that partner with the travel agent.
In addition to this influx of people, an increase in the proportion booking immediate reservations online has been noticed.
According to Odisseias, there is a coexistence between the traditional method of booking fewer but farther holidays and this new approach of smaller scale more frequent trips, showing two different ways in which to appreciate Portugal.
