In the last few days, Coimbra inhabitants have been made aware of the possibility of a “100-year flood”, as reported by The Portugal News. However, what was expected to be the flood of the century did not happen, and today, Coimbra has seen the sunshine again.

While the river discharge is still high, on social media, Ana Abrunhosa, mayor of Coimbra, announced that the river level in the Mondego River is slowly returning to normal.

Nevertheless, there are still areas of the city that are flooded, such as Santa Clara parish, where the Santa Clara-a-Velha Monastery is located.

Other municipalities in Coimbra’s district are still experiencing high levels of water near houses, such as in Ereira, Montemor-o-Velho, where residents are circulating by boat, provided by local authorities and the army.
