In a statement, the educational and cultural services publisher Cabeçudos explains that the work, developed by 811 student authors, will be presented on 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30 April, always at 10:00 am, at the Portalegre Arts and Entertainment Centre (CAEP).
The book "Migrations" is the result of the sixth edition of the Story Factory, an initiative promoted by Cabeçudos, in conjunction with the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Alentejo (CIMAA) and the 15 municipalities that make up the Portalegre district.
According to the promoters, this literary creation by 3rd- and 4th-grade primary school students expresses their vision of "on identity, diversity, belonging and human mobility," at a time when these themes are "central" in public debate.
In statements to the Lusa news agency, the project manager of Cabeçudos, Rui Andrade, explained that the book began to be developed in October 2025, and the theme was received by the students "normally," since children from various countries are arriving in the country.
"They [the students] liked giving their testimony and writing about the theme. For them, it was a natural theme; it's part of their lives," he added.
The project involved writing and illustration workshops, and the print run of the book will allow it to reach all students in the 1st cycle of primary education in the region, a universe of "about 4,000 children."
According to the promoters, the children's involvement in the book's creative process "promoted the development of expression skills, critical thinking, and social awareness," contributing to a "sensitive and informed reading" of a global phenomenon from a low-density area.
“Migrations” integrates texts and illustrations that highlight children's ability to think about the contemporary world with empathy, imagination, and critical thinking, affirming the school as a space for artistic creation and civic reflection,” they add.
Cabeçudos also reveals that “all students” in the first cycle of basic education in the 15 municipalities involved will receive a copy of the book “Migrations,” thus becoming “agents of dissemination and reflection” within their families and communities.
The Fábrica de Histórias project, which aims to promote reading and artistic creation in an educational context, has the support of the Directorate-General for the Arts and the contribution of the Association for Artistic Education and Literacies in this edition.
During the event, a show will present the “literary universe” of the book, followed by a presentation of the project's making, featuring images collected throughout the creative process.
