"The unions representing the workers of the Lisbon Metro, E.P.E., have submitted a strike notice for next Wednesday, 3 June; therefore, there will be no train service between 11 pm on Tuesday, 2 June, and all day on Wednesday, 3 June," the company informed today in a statement.

According to the carrier, service is expected to return to normal at 6:30 am on 4 June.

According to the Economic and Social Council (CES), no minimum services have been established regarding train circulation.

The national coordinator of the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans), José Manuel Oliveira, said on 19 May that “all urban passenger transport companies” are mobilised against the labour package.

According to Fectrans, the strike notices submitted cover workers from the Lisbon Metro, Carris, Carristur, Transtejo/Soflusa, Fertagus, Metro Mondego, Metro do Porto, STCP and CP – Comboios de Portugal, among others.

In December 2025, the CGTP and UGT decided to call a general strike in response to the draft law on labour law reform presented by the PSD/CDS-PP Government, being the first strike to bring together the two trade union confederations since June 2013, when Portugal was under the intervention of the 'troika'. Meanwhile, the CGTP-IN has issued a pre-strike notice for Wednesday against changes to the labour law, after negotiations with the government ended without an agreement.

The Government's proposed law to revise labour legislation includes "more than 50 changes" to the initial draft, 12 of which come from the UGT, as indicated by the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Rosário Palma Ramalho.
