By the end of the year, the aim is to have built 40,000 new homes, financed by an investment of nine billion euros in public housing until 2030.
According to the Prime Minister’s office, this goal was achieved thanks to the measures that were defined in the Building Portugal programme to streamline the process, as well as a firm collaboration between the government, the municipalities, and the Institute for Housing and Urban Renewal.
In addition to this effort, the government has stated there will be twelve thousand housing units built for accessible renting, and the plans laid out in the Housing Location Strategies, in which Portuguese municipalities identified a need for roughly 133,000 new homes.
Competitive modernisation
The Ministry of Economy has announced the receiving of €2.32 billion from the European Union as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan fund, which the ministry refers to as not just an investment, but a confirmation of Portugal's commitment to the pledges made with the European Commission regarding the application of EU funds.
The Ministry, during their announcement, reflected on the Recovery and Resilience Plan now that it's in, as they call it, its decisive phase, with the goal being to bring it to its conclusion by meeting every deadline and accomplishing the driving goal, that is, the modernisation of Portugal’s competitiveness and cohesion.
