Microsoft has announced Ana Maria Lopes as the new General Manager of Microsoft Portugal. She will assume the role on September 1, succeeding Andrés Ortolá, who led the Portuguese operation from 2022 until July of this year, Executive Digest reports.
Lopes’ appointment comes at a time marked by increased investment and the growing importance of the country to Microsoft. According to the statement, the Microsoft ecosystem already represents about 2.5 percent of the national GDP.
Lopes will be responsible for the national strategy, and her priorities will include strengthening relationships with clients and partners, collaborating with public and private entities, and the responsible adoption of AI. The new general manager will also play a role in the digital transformation of Portuguese organisations.
Lopes has had a long career with Microsoft and has previously led the Small, Medium & Corporate and Enterprise Commercial areas in Portugal. She holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. She will be the third woman to lead Microsoft Portugal.
