The fourth edition of the festival will take place from 22 to 29 August, with free admission to all events.

Organised by cultural association O Corvo e a Raposa, the festival focuses on historically informed music and aims to explore connections between early music, the Iberian Peninsula and other parts of the world, while also creating a link between the past and the present.

This year's programme begins on 22 August at 7 pm at the Church of Santo António in Lagos, with the first edition of the "Lagos 1460" artists' grant.

The initiative is aimed at emerging musicians working with historically informed music from the period after 1460 and was developed through a new partnership with the Lagos Museum and Lagos Council.

The festival will then continue across the western Algarve, combining concerts with opportunities for conversation, sharing and learning.

Among the musicians taking part is Marco Ambrosini, known internationally for playing the nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish keyed string instrument. He is due to perform as part of the EuropAntiqua programme on 24 August.

The Costa Vicentina Early Music Fest was first held in 2021 at the Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe in Vila do Bispo. Since then, the project has expanded its programme and partnerships across the region.

Its previous editions have brought together musicians from Portugal and abroad, with a particular focus on medieval and early Iberian music and the historical connections between different cultures.
