Brasa is one of Vilamoura’s newest restaurants, having opened in January this year as part of the Hyatt Regency Vilamoura.

We were excited to discover a new steakhouse in the area. When we lived in Spain, steakhouses seemed to be on every corner and going out for a steak and sangria was a typical evening out. The Algarve offers a wonderful variety of cuisines, but traditional steak restaurants aren’t as common.

Located just a short walk from the lively Vilamoura Marina, we visited Brasa on a warm summer evening. Although the terrace is spacious and inviting, we chose to sit indoors because the interior is simply beautiful. Contemporary elegance with warm wooden details, soft lighting, and orange walls decorated with maritime-inspired and rattan artwork.

The service deserves a special mention. It was genuinely some of the best we’ve experienced. Boris, who looked after our table, made sure everything was perfect from the moment we arrived. He was attentive and professional, constantly checking that every guest was enjoying their evening.

Full of flavour

To start, we ordered the oxtail croquettes, which quickly became my favourite, and the sea-style huevos rotos. As I mentioned earlier, this classic Spanish comfort dish instantly took us back to Spain. Crispy potatoes topped with eggs and Algarvian dried tuna created a special dish that was packed with flavour.

Boris also recommended a local red wine produced in the Algarve village of Algoz, which paired beautifully with the meal. The menu includes several vegan options, such as hummus and quinoa, but we came to Brasa to experience its meat and seafood.

My husband can never resist seafood, so he chose the king prawns, which were perfectly cooked and full of flavour. I opted for the smoky tenderloin, served straight from the grill with smoked chimichurri sauce. The meat was tender, juicy and exactly what you hope for from a steakhouse.

To accompany our mains, we shared roasted vegetables, hand-cut fries and mac & cheese, which complemented the dishes perfectly.

Families are well catered for too. The children’s menu includes great options such as seabass fillet, chicken steak, Bolognese and pomodoro casarecce.

The portions were generous, and we could barely finish everything, but every dish exceeded our expectations.

For dessert, we tried the traditional sponge cake with ice cream and the Brasa mousse with chocolate, almonds and cream. I’m quite picky when it comes to desserts, but this was honestly one of the best I’ve had in a restaurant. It tasted homemade, with a velvety texture and rich flavour.

A welcoming atmosphere

We enjoyed the experience so much that we returned shortly afterwards for Brasa’s Santos Populares celebration, a festive buffet dinner featuring Portuguese favourites including grilled sardines, piri-piri chicken, grilled pork belly, orange cake and sweet rice.

Throughout the year, Brasa also hosts special brunches for occasions such as Women’s Day and Easter. Before the summer season, the popular Bubble Brunch took place every Sunday and is set to return in September.

With exceptional service, excellent food and a welcoming atmosphere, Brasa is a fantastic choice for dinner. It is a great addition to Vilamoura’s dining scene and one we’ll happily return to.
