Praia do Camilo, near Lagos, continues to be inaccessible by land after part of a cliff collapsed during recent periods of severe weather, leaving authorities concerned about safety in the area.
The beach, which was recently included in a list of Europe’s 50 best beaches, is normally reached via a popular wooden staircase and walkway overlooking the coastline near Ponta da Piedade.
Local officials have previously indicated they hope to reopen access as soon as conditions allow. However, any decision depends on safety assessments and technical evaluations relating to the stability of the surrounding cliffs.
The closure remains in place while authorities await the necessary procedures and recommendations concerning the affected area.
As a result, visitors currently cannot reach the beach using its usual land access route. For now, the only way to reach the sandy cove is by sea, either on organised boat trips or by kayak.
Praia do Camilo is one of the Algarve’s most photographed beaches, known for its dramatic limestone formations, clear waters and a small stretch of golden sand. Its location close to the iconic rock formations of Ponta da Piedade makes it a popular stop for both tourists and residents.
The continuing closure comes at the start of the busy summer season, when the beach would normally attract large numbers of visitors.
Authorities continue to advise the public to respect safety barriers and restrictions while assessments of the area remain ongoing.
