The celebrations take place from 20 to 22 August and come just days after the traditional festivities in honour of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, which attracted more than 3,000 people.

The anniversary marks an important moment in Ferragudo's long history. The village was formally created following a Charter of Privileges granted by Queen Leonor on 21 August 1520, a document that was later confirmed by King Manuel I in 1521 and King João III in 1525, as detailed by the Lagoa Council.

Ferragudo's history, however, stretches back considerably further. Its strategic position on the eastern bank of the Arade estuary, where the river meets the Atlantic, made the area important for settlement, trade and defence for centuries.

Fishing later became closely linked to the identity of the village, something that can still be seen today in Ferragudo's traditional riverside character.

This week's anniversary celebrations will once again bring the community together in the centre of Ferragudo, adding another summer event to a busy August programme in the village.

The celebrations follow the religious festivities held earlier this month and form part of a summer calendar that has included cultural events, outdoor activities and entertainment for residents and visitors.
