The programme, run jointly by Turismo de Portugal and the Institute for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (IDiPD), recognises cultural events that take measures to improve accessibility and make it easier for people with different needs to participate.

It covers a wide range of events, including music, theatre, cinema, dance, literature, visual arts, performing arts and street arts festivals.

So far this year, seven events have been recognised: MEO KALORAMA, FESTA – Sons da Lusofonia, AGEAS CoolJazz, Rock in Rio Lisboa, the Lisbon Book Fair, Serralves em Festa and IMAGINARIUS – International Festival of Performing Arts in Public Spaces.

MEO KALORAMA, taking place in Lisbon from 28 to 30 August, is the latest event to receive the Accessible Festival distinction.

The programme looks at accessibility as part of the overall organisation of an event, including conditions for circulation and access, the information available to visitors and the ability of different audiences to enjoy cultural spaces and activities.

Public and private organisations can apply, provided their festivals meet the programme's requirements. Applications generally need to be submitted at least three months before the event begins.

There is also a financial award for the Festival + Acessível, given annually to the festival considered to have the strongest performance in accessibility.

Applications for the 2025-2026 edition remain open until 30 September 2026 for eligible festivals taking place by the end of the year.
