The ranking comes from a new study by consultancy OnStrategy, which looked at the brands that have made the strongest and most lasting impression on people in Portugal.

Delta took first place among adults aged between 18 and 75, followed by beer brand Sagres and ice cream brand Olá.

Caixa Geral de Depósitos, TAP, CTT, EDP, Galp, Continente and Super Bock completed the top 10.

However, the results changed considerably when the respondents were divided by age.

Among younger people aged between 18 and 30, Sagres was the most memorable brand. Delta came second, while Super Bock took third place.

Sagres also led the ranking among those aged from 31 to 45, followed by Delta and Galp.

Olá proved particularly memorable among people aged between 46 and 60, taking the top position in this age group. Delta was placed second and Sagres third.

Delta returned to first place among the oldest group surveyed, covering people aged between 61 and 75. Olá came second, while CTT completed the top three.

OnStrategy said the results show that only a small number of Portuguese brands, including Delta, Sagres and Super Bock, have managed to build a strong connection across different generations.

Some long-established brands appear to have a stronger place in the memories of older consumers, while newer names tend to perform better among younger people. However, there are exceptions, with Água das Pedras standing out as a historic brand that ranks particularly well among younger respondents.

The new study considered more than 2,000 brands from over 70 areas of the economy. The brands were spontaneously identified by a panel of more than 50,000 people.

As well as general familiarity, the research explored qualities that help a brand remain in people’s memories over time, including personality, authenticity, strength, passion, inspiration and the ability to stay relevant.
