The aircraft issued the international emergency code Squawk 7700 when it was at an altitude of approximately 11,600 meters, eventually touching down safely in Porto at around 1:30 pm. Passengers completed their journey on a replacement aircraft, arriving at their destination more than 4 hours late.
On the same day, a Jet2 flight from Lanzarote also declared an emergency during its approach to Manchester due to the sudden incapacitation of one of the pilots for medical reasons. The co-pilot took over the controls and landed the aircraft safely, with the affected pilot receiving immediate medical assistance after the passengers disembarked normally.
In both incidents, activating priority protocols enabled operations to proceed without harm to the occupants.
